Mikeno Lodge in Virunga National Park-Democratic Republic of Congo

Mikeno Lodge is a comfortable lodge placed in the forested hillside at the Headquarters of Virunga National Park, a good base for Trekking mountain gorillas or hiking a volcano. The lodge is well set between three major attractions in Virunga National Park. The is just 1hour and 30 minutes’ drive from Goma. There is a plenty of bird life, as well as blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, and baboons. Chimpanzees are regular visitors to the area. Mikeno Lodge provides grate experience among the wildlife and beauty of Virunga National Park. Mikeno Lodge has 12 bungalows, each with splendid views into the nearby forest. The summit shelters at the top of mount Nyiragongo

Housing at the peak of Mount Nyiragongo is the smaller basic tents provided with a decent mattress and pillows. Each tent is meant for two people but since they are small, you will be in close quarters with your tent mate! There are eight cabins, each for two people. Some are up closer to the crater’s rim, while others are down below. Housing in the upper cabins allows you to pop out of your tent for a look in the crater at a moment’s notice however even those sleeping in the lower cabins will also access the lave lake. The higher cabins are colder because of wind as compared to the upper cabins.

Each of the twelve summit shelters contains two single beds on which visitors can put their sleeping bags. Although these shelters aren’t plush, they offer a welcome escape from the elements. Tchegera Island tented camp

Tchegera Island Camp is good place to escape the hustle and bustle of Goma or to relax after climbing Nyiragongo volcano. Situated off the northern shore of Lake Kivu, Tchegera camp offers spectacular views of the lake and four volcanoes. On clear nights, Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira volcanoes add to the drama by turning the night sky red with their glowing lava.

Bukima Tented Camp

Bukima Tented Camp is a simple tented camp at the border of the park and one of the main starting points for gorilla treks in Virunga. The camp was originally built for researchers, but is now used primarily by trekkers.

Lulimbi tented camp

The latest string in Virunga’s bow, and operational since July 2016, Lulimbi Camp lies on the Ishasha River on the eastern edge of the park’s central sector. In fact, Uganda’s safari star Queen Elizabeth National Park lies just across the water.
